DSA UK wins European Direct Selling Association of the Year 
 
The UK Direct Selling Association has been named European Direct Selling Association of the Year for its work in promoting and supporting direct selling. 
 
The DSA beat off 27 other national DSA's to win the award at the European Direct Selling Association (Seldia) Annual Conference. 
 
The UK DSA team, led by new Director General Lynda Mills, was praised for broadcasting positive messages about direct selling and showcasing the industry to new sectors including under 25's, men and over 50's. The association's work to support member companies with initiatives such as the DSA annual conference, awards, seminars, advice and education were also highlighted. 
 
Lynda Mills, Director General said, "The UK DSA team are truly passionate about direct selling and we are thrilled to have been named European Direct Selling Association of the Year. Direct selling is booming in the UK with over 400,000 people involved in the industry and we are committed to helping both these individual direct sellers, and our 60 member companies to thrive."

Seldia Awards PartyLite Europe with ASTRA 2014 
 
PartyLite named best direct selling company 2014 in Europe 
 
European direct sales association Seldia has selected PartyLite as the best European direct selling company in 2014. During the association‘s annual conference in Brussels/Belgium in early October, Martin Köhler, PartyLite President Europe, accepted the prestigious ASTRA award from Seldia’s chairman & CEO of Swedish company Oriflame, Magnus Brännström. 
 
In paying tribute to the winner, Brännström highlighted the strong similarities between the PartyLite business model and the goals Seldia works hard to achieve: primarily the promotion and further development of the direct sales model across Europe including the social welfare and economic aspects for direct sales professionals, especially the active support of career opportunities for women

A Woman at the Helm 
 
Lynda Mills is the first woman to be appointed Director General of the Direct Selling Association since it was set up 49 years ago. 
 
Lynda says the appointment of a woman, and a mum at that, to head such a female-dominated industry - 75% of direct sellers are women - is significant. “I think it is quite important that I am a mum,” she states. “I have had to juggle bringing up my daughter with earning a living. I understand first hand how difficult that is and what opportunities there are in direct selling. I can relate as a female. Women are often not just bringing up children, but managing a household. It’s like running a small business and direct selling is just an extension of those skills. I can talk from experience about that.”

New to London with no friends and a job that knocked her confidence, Emily Manning was becoming more and more depressed. 
 
Emily, 25, who now lives in Bounds Green, North London, says: “I’d left home in St Neots in Cambridgeshire to find something exciting but found myself in exactly the same type of work that I’d done for six years as a receptionist. 
 
“I’d come to London to find more ­challenging employment and progress my career  
but after a few months I felt I had moved all this way to become absorbed into the  
same routine.”
